In college I studied with Dennis Wilson, a Grammy-nominated arranger whose work has been performed by Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and the Count Basie Orchestra. Also in college, I studied music composition with Michael Daugherty and Erik Santos. More recently, I was an intern for arranger Chris Jahnke at the recent Broadway revival of Grease.
Creativity
Many clients simply want their arrangements to sound like the CD. This is a welcome and practical course, and I can imitate a famous version of a song very accurately. However, as a composer and jazz musician, I revel in any chance to be inventive. See the recordings below for examples of innovative arrangements.
Ensembles
I have written arrangements for groups of two (piano and voice), twenty-one (jazz big band with violin and vibes), full orchestra, and everything in between. Whatever the ensemble, a good arrangement makes everyone sound better.
