Eric Walton

New York City

Eric Walton has a welcome and permanent spot on my very short A-list. He has all the requisite talents: ace reader, quick and accurate insight into the composer's intentions, great vocal coaching and actor support, solid understanding of musical dramaturgy.

My Story

As a child I was an avid actor, and I loved connecting with fellow cast members. I felt closer to them then I did to almost anyone, and that feeling is what drives me today. My greatest ambition as music director is to nurture a loving and creative environment, and I believe that whatever joy we find in each other will translate to our performance and to the audience. Today this feeling comes about most for me in tech week, of all places. I love watching the varied personalities and abilities that come together to make a show. The process, and our responsibility of serving both show and people, is sublime.

Styles

Having worked professionally as a music director in styles ranging from bluegrass to pop music, from Rodgers and Hammerstein to The Who, I am comfortable working in ANY style of musical theatre. I have professional experience as a jazz musician, a classical accompanist, and as a pop and gospel keyboardist.
